Cape Town, February 17 (RHC-PL) -- The president of the Friends of Cuba Society (FOCUS) in Cape Town, Bheki Mvovo, expressed admiration for the Cuban people, whose sons and daughters contributed to the liberation of South Africa and putting an end to the racist apartheid system.

When Cubans came to fight in Africa, defeating the imperialist forces in Angola and promoting the liberation of South Africa, the only thing we demanded in return was to carry their dead soldiers, Bheki recalled during an interview with Prensa Latina.

He has physically been on the Caribbean island only once "in 2013 to attend the colloquium for the release of the Cuban Five, held in the eastern Cuban province of Holguin," but Bheki feels in his heart he has visited it many more times.

FOCUS chapters have been established in several South African provinces, where support for the Cuban Revolution is promoted, to which he also described as being "a model for me."

About the solidarity movement for Southern Africa, Bheki pointed out that "it would never stop, because our relationship with Cuba is always present."

The Cuban victory on African soil had a repercussion beyond Namibia and Angola. In the words of the late leader Nelson Mandela, this victory "destroyed the myth of invincibility of the white oppressor (and) inspired grass-roots organizations fighting in South Africa."
