Havana, April 15 (RHC) –- Cuban officials have welcomed the decision by U.S. President Barack Obama to remove Cuba from the State Department's list of sponsors of terrorism, where the island was unjustly included.

"The Cuban government recognizes the president of the United States' just decision to take Cuba off a list in which it should never have been included," Josefina Vidal, Cuba's senior diplomat for U.S. affairs, said Tuesday night.

“As our government has reiterated in several occasions, Cuba rejects and condemns all acts of terrorism, as well as any actions that aims to encourage, support, fund or cover up terror acts,” adds the communique.

The statement came shortly after Obama sent a notification to the U.S. Congress conveying his decision to remove Cuba from the list.

Cuba can be officially be removed from the terrorism list 45 days after the president's report was sent to Congress.
