Cuban Medication Receives High International Recognition

Havana, April 24 (RHC)-- The Cuban medication Itoli-zumab was awarded the Gold Medal of the World Intellectual Property Organization for its significant contribution to the treatment of severe psoriasis, a chronic skin disorder that affects more than 125 million people worldwide.

The award ceremony took place Thursday here in Havana with the attendance of Cuban First Vice President Miguel Díaz Canel.

Addressing those present, Nuno Pires de Carvalo, an official with the World Intellectual Property Organization praised the high potential of the Cuban humanized monoclonal antibody in the treatment of autoimmune diseases.

Pires de Carvalo stressed that in the Latin American region Cuba has received the largest number of medals (10) from the World Intellectual Property Organization, a UN body headquartered in Geneva with 187 member states.

The Cuban drug Itoli-zumab is currently being used here on the island, as well as in China and India with very positive results.
