Johannesburg, July 1 (RHC) –- The Cuban Five on Tuesday visited the home of late ANC president Chief Albert Luthuli at Groutville, South Africa.

The visit was described as invoking fond memories of ANC leaders and the country's solidarity with Cuba.

The five Cuban anti-terrorism fighters -- Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González and René González -- are in the country to thank South Africa for campaigning for their release from U.S. prisons.

They were arrested in the U.S. in September 1998 and convicted for monitoring extremist groups in South Florida.

Speaking at the museum's visit, South African Premier Senzo Mchunu said the Cuban Five represented what was best in human beings -- endurance, conviction and being true to their beliefs.
