Italian Premier Pays Official Visit to Cuba

Havana, October 28 (RHC)-- Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi arrived Tuesday evening in Havana to begin an official visit to Cuba. The Italian leader is responding to an invitation made by President Raul Castro during his visit to Rome in May.

Renzi described his meeting with Raul Castro in Rome as a new page in bilateral relations between Rome and Havana and also noted that Cuba and Italy can accomplish many things together.

Upon his arrival at Havana's Jose Marti International Airport, the Italian premier was welcomed by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra and members of the diplomatic corps accredited on the island.

During his stay here, Renzi will hold official talks with President Raul Castro and opened a business forum on Wednesday at Havana's Hotel Nacional.

The Italian premier is a 40-year-old politician with a Bachelor's in Law. This is Renzi´s first tour of Latin America and the Caribbean which includes visits to Chile, Peru and Colombia.
