Luanda, November 3 (RHC)-- The Angolan League of Friendship and Solidarity with the Peoples paid homage to Cuban internationalist fighter Raúl Díaz Arguelles, and Angolan nationalist leader, Monsignor Manuel das Neves, at the “Alto de las Cruces” cemetery in the capital, Luanda.

The solemn ceremony was in the framework of activities to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Angola's independence, celebrated on November 11th.

Addressing those present, the solidarity organization president Carlos Mariano pointed to the circumstances, in which Díaz Arguelles – also known as Domingo da Silva -- was killed in combat, fighting alongside his Angolan brothers.

The Angolan solidarity activist also spoke highly of Monsignor Das Neves, who is considered one of the leaders of the uprising on February 4th, 1961, which sparked the armed struggle for Angola's independence.
