Quito, January (RHC)-- The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) has demanded the lifting of Washington's economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba and the return to the Caribbean state of the territory illegally occupied by the U.S. Naval Base in Guantánamo.

The two claims are contained in separate special declarations adopted by CELAC leaders at the end of the bloc's 4th summit, held Wednesday in Quito, Ecuador.

Upon welcoming the re-establishment of U.S.-Cuba diplomatic ties, the organization called on President Barack Obama to modify the application of Washington's unilateral sanctions against Havana.

The summit also expressed its full support for Argentina's sovereignty claim over the Malvinas Islands.
