Top Cuban Pianist Chucho Valdes to Perform at White House

Havana, April 22 (RHC)—A top Cuban pianist will be among the world class ensemble of musicians playing in the White House next Friday, April 29th to celebrate International Jazz Day.

Renowned pianist Chucho Valdés, one of the most outstanding Cuban music and jazz figures, will be joining the likes of Danilo Pérez, Herbie Hancock, Sting, Aretha Franklin, Trombone Shorty and Diana Krall during the “Jazz at the White House” celebration, the name of the event, which will be internationally broadcast during prime time by ABC Television, on Saturday, 30th.

The function is being organized by UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova and legendary U.S. pianist Herbie Hancock, a UNESCO  Ambassador for Inter-cultural Dialogue.

UNESCO –  the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization – officially designated April 30th as International Jazz Day in November 2011. The annual event's purpose is to "highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe."
