First Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel Fulfills Tight Agenda in Russia

Moscow, May 26 (RHC)-- On Thursday, the second day of his official visit to Russia, First Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel held separate talks with Prime Minister Dmitri Medvédev, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin and with Guenadi Ziuganov, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Russia.

Díaz-Canel's first official activity on Thursday in Moscow was a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Kremlin Wall in the Alexander Garden in Moscow, in memory of the more than 27 million Soviet soldiers killed during World War II.

After the solemn ceremony, the Cuban vice president was first received by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin, who chairs the Joint Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation on the Russian side.

Later on, Díaz-Canel was received by Prime Minister Dmitri Medvédev, who described as encouraging prospects of strengthening Russia-Cuba relations.

Also on Thursday, the Cuban first vice president held a cordial exchange with Guennadi Ziugánov, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Russia.

Diaz-Canel and his accompanying delegation are on their first official visit to Moscow to review the state of relations between the European country and the Caribbean state, which both sides consider excellent.

Shortly after arriving in Moscow on Wednesday, the Cuban vice president and his delegation were affectionately welcome by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Díaz-Canel and the Russian head of state reviewed progress achieved in economic and trade ties since the visit of President Putin to Havana in July 2014. They also discussed the possibilities for the effective participation of Russia in Cuba's Economic and Social Program through 2020.

In a message on Twitter, Cuban Vice Minister Rogelio Sierra stated that with the visit of the first Cuban Vice-President to Russia, the bonds of brotherhood and friendship between Cuba and Russia have become much closer.
