U.S. President Joseph Biden seems determined to demonstrate that in terms of disrespect for the sovereignty of peoples, international law and harmonious coexistence among nations, he can be even worse than his nefarious predecessor, Donald Trump.

The above can be inferred from the enactment of the so-called Law for the Strengthening of Nicaragua's Adherence to the Conditions for the Electoral Reform of 2021, better known as "Renacer" for its acronym in English language.

That instrument is based on the patently false premise that the United States can impose on others the way they elect their rulers, as well as direct domestic policy and act against a people if the results do not coincide with its interests.

Prior to the votes in Nicaragua, the legislation had already been approved by the House of Representatives in Washington, where six Republican and 29 Democratic members rejected it, and Biden signed it into law yesterday, November 10.

It allows the application of new and abusive financial sanctions against Managua, including the exclusion of Managua from the Free Trade Agreement with Central America.

All this because President Daniel Ortega was reelected for the period from 2022 to 2027, by an overwhelming majority of those who participated in the elections held recently on November 7.

The elections were held in accordance with the legislation in force in Nicaragua and this must be respected, whether or not one likes what is happening inside the Central American country, which by the way is one of the safest, with the best hospital and educational network and the best public and social services of that sub-region.

The United States has the most absurd electoral system of the continent and one is entertained, and even has a little fun, with the circus they put together, but it is the one established by law and nobody thinks of sanctioning them because they dislike the way it works. It may be ridiculous, but it is legal.

Another thing is that Washington historically aspires to take over Sandino's homeland, because of its geopolitical position and its enormous natural wealth, especially hydraulic resources, a commodity that is already scarce in the world.

US troops invaded this territory from 1912 to 1933, then the White House supported and sustained the cruel Somoza dictatorship and when it was defeated by the Sandinista Revolution, they imposed a ferocious war that bled this people to death between 1979 and 1990.

Now they want to give lessons in democracy and civility, under what arguments, with what right?
