The United States is drifting towards a very dangerous form of fascism by the hand of former President Donald Trump, who is already in full struggle to return to the White House, which represents a serious threat to the whole world, warned academic and linguist Noam Chomsky.

He pointed out that the events that took place on January 6, 2021, when a mob stormed the Capitol, the seat of the legislative branch of the northern nation, was a clear attempt to overthrow an elected government, which, in fact, qualifies as a violent coup d'état.

The action did not come to fruition, he said, because some lucid and influential sectors of the Republican party condemned it and the high command of the army remained on the sidelines of the uprising.

During a recent interview with political scientist, journalist and economist JC Polychroniou Chomsky warned that in recent months Trump increased his power within the Republican ranks and got rid of some opponents, including Senator Liz Chenney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Chenney.

This makes this formation look less and less like a political party and more and more like the pre-World War II European fascist movements in Germany, Italy and Francisco Franco's Spain.

This is evidenced by the fact that a Trump campaign slogan, "Make America Great Again", MAGA for short, has become a movement that is carrying out what the Associated Press defines as a slow-motion insurrection.

MAGA means Let's Make America Great Again, where obviously America is the United States, but not that entire nation, but the one formed exclusively by fundamentalist, xenophobic and racist whites who furiously follow their leader, Trump.

Slowly, but evidently, without hiding, they are promoting changes in the laws of several states to prevent "the wrong vote", i.e. that of the black, Hispanic or Asian population, i.e. immigrants or their descendants, and even poor whites.

In this way, they hope to obtain results favorable to their cause, both in this year's mid-term legislative elections and in the presidential elections scheduled for 2024.

But if these plans do not prosper, they are also willing to use violence. Electoral subversion in the U.S., Chomsky said, is already underway and a soft coup is now unfolding on a course to the far right, which casts a shadow over long-term human survival.
