Although it was already seen coming, it was in the last few hours that U.S. President Joe Biden officially announced his aspirations for reelection in the 2024 elections, an intention he had been hinting at for months.

With a video posted on social networks, the president announced his decision, in which he will again take as running mate the current vice-president Kamala Harris.

Biden took advantage of the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the campaign that gave him the victory over Republican Donald Trump in the 2020 elections.

However, the current tenant of the White House will have an arduous road ahead, as there are many issues that keep Americans divided.

Biden's approval rating remains unchanged at 40%. His low approval rating is influenced by aspects such as inflation, which, although it has decreased, is still a problem for citizens, who have seen their purchasing power affected.

The mass shootings that are part of the daily panorama of the United States also provoke discontent in society. So far this year, more than 130 of these violent events involving firearms have been reported.

Data from the Gun Violence Archive, a non-profit research center, indicate that in each of the last three years there have been more than 600 of these unfortunate events, which have mourned American society.

Last year alone, for example, six THOUSAND 32 children as young as 17 were victims of gun violence, the highest number since the research center began tracking reports in 2014.

Also weighing on the electorate is the age of the current president, who will turn 82 shortly after the 2024 elections. Opinion polls, revealed that most Americans, and even Democratic voters, are of the opinion that he should not seek a second term.

However, there is no strong Democratic challenger on the horizon for the time being and, as pundits point out, the blue party has tailored the primary schedule to the current president. They will begin on February 3 in South Carolina, the first state where he won in 2020, after his defeats in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Next August, the Democratic Convention will take place, in which, if elected as a candidate for the presidential elections, he could again face the Republican Donald Trump in 2024, who has already made clear his electoral aspirations, despite being indicted by a New York court and facing several investigations.

We will have to wait and see what happens in the coming months, but many are betting on a contest between Biden and Trump, although they do not rule out the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, also from the most conservative wing of the Republicans and supported by Trump to reach his current position.
