From this Saturday, November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and until next December 10, Cuba will carry out a day of struggle against this violation of human rights, one of the most widespread in the world.

In the Caribbean nation, there are also incidents of this nature, which constitute a social and health problem. According to the authorities, in the first half of this year there was an increase in violent actions against women.

That is why this day will be a propitious occasion to continue working in favor of women, a sector that has been gaining ground in the socioeconomic life of the country, based on the policies implemented for their benefit since the revolutionary triumph of January 1959.

It will be a new opportunity to encourage spaces for help and preventive work, as well as for a greater knowledge of the laws that protect this population segment.

This is a recognized problem in the country, which concerns the whole society, so educational campaigns are developed through the media to make it visible, prevent and raise awareness among the population about the damage not only physical, but also psychological that can cause these acts.

The Greater Antilles currently has a National Program for the Advancement of Women. Approved by the Council of Ministers in October 2021, its objectives include equality of rights, opportunities and possibilities, while maintaining the fight against discrimination and violence in any of its manifestations.

One of the actions contemplated in this program is that of the children's houses in workplaces, which enables the incorporation of women into the workplace and, therefore, their empowerment.

Another example of the government's commitment to continue working in favor of women is the new Family Code, which safeguards the rights of all members of this fundamental cell of society and emphasizes the most vulnerable sectors.

In this context, the state's commitment to zero tolerance of any form of gender violence is consolidated at the legal, legislative and public policy levels.

Likewise, in April of this year, the First Meeting of Women's Voices for the NO Gender Violence was held, in which it was emphasized that the confrontation of this problem must be constant and a daily purpose.

As stated by Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel, who participated in the meeting, gender violence in any of its manifestations is incompatible with the principles of the revolution.
