More than a month after the attack by Ecuadorian troops on the Mexican embassy in Quito, to kidnap Jorge Glas, the former vice president's health continues to be precarious due to the conditions in the La Roca maximum security prison.

The activist of the Citizen Revolution movement has been subjected to very serious mistreatment, from his capture in the diplomatic headquarters of another State, in violation of the Vienna Convention, to his subsequent confinement.

Surrounded by imprisoned gang members, in conspiracy with organized crime groups, Jorge Glas claims to be on a hunger strike and has asked the presidents of Mexico, Brazil and Colombia for help.

In need of medical treatment, assembly members of the Citizen Revolution presented a habeas corpus appeal to the National Court of Justice to demand the release of the former vice president.

Glas's defense insists on the illegality of his arrest, since he was in asylum waiting for safe conduct to travel to Mexico and the government of Daniel Noboa did not respect the inviolability of the diplomatic headquarters.

As part of his tireless management, the politician's defense went to the UN to request from its Working Group on Arbitrary Detention a claim to the Noboa government so that the detainee can continue his asylum process.

The legal representatives also took steps in Mexico and Germany, since Glas has citizenship of the European country, to attend to the process of his kidnapping and mistreatment of him.

Glas's mother denounced Noboa and other Ecuadorian officials before the Mexican courts for what she considered the forced disappearance of her son.

As you will remember, Mexico presented Ecuador before the International Court of Justice, where it presented all the arguments regarding the invasion of the embassy in Quito and the harassment of one of its diplomats.

A significant number of countries join Mexico's request that Ecuador be suspended as a member of the UN.

The situation of the Ecuadorian government is embarrassing although it inflexibly insists on what it considers to be an exceptional act, by attacking the foreign diplomatic headquarters.

Meanwhile, Glas maintains his innocence in the case that investigates him for alleged embezzlement in the reconstruction works of some towns affected by an earthquake in 2016.

The Puebla Group, intellectuals, artists and politicians from several countries have asked Ecuador to release the former official, persecuted for seven years, in a case of instrumentalization of justice, or lawfare.
