China’s Disabled Performers Company will debut in Cuba at Havana’s National Theater on Saturday and Sunday with the show My dream.
Considered by critics as a display of innovative and unique artistry, the ensemble, set up in by 13 amateur performers in 1987, is now a prestigious group made up of 110 people, mostly persons with disabilities. The music and dance show had its world premiere in 2000 and two years later it was taken to the commercial showbiz market receiving both critics and audiences acclaim.
The company’s repertoire currently includes some 150 shows, characterized by their artistic elegance and spiritual depth, and based on a philosophy of self-confidence, self-development and autonomy. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization –UNESCO- named the ensemble Peace Artists and the World Disabled People Association declared them Ambassadors of the Disabled and Carriers of the Special Art Torch.
