Goyo Montero: resident choreographer with Acosta Danza

Havana, December 25 (RHC)—The Cuban dance company Acosta Danza announced Tuesday on its website the designation of Spain’s Goyo Montero as the ensemble’s resident choreographer.

Montero’s link with the dance troupe, set up by prestigious Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta in 2015, dates back to the company’s beginnings when it performed Montero’s piece Alrededor no hay nada, the first piece presented by Acosta Danza in its Premiere Season.

Imponderable, another Montero piece of 2017 inspired by the lyrical work of Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, ratifies the relationship between the Spaniard and the Caribbean island’s dance group.

The Spanish dancer and choreographer has been received several awards throughout his career, such as the Grand Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland; the Gold Medal at Luxemburg’s International Competition and the nomination as Best Dancer in the 2003-2004 by the specialized magazine Dance Europe.

Montero stood out as a principal dancer at Germany’s prestigious Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as a soloist at the State Theater of Wiesbaden and the Royal Ballet of Flanders. As a choreographer he has also worked with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Gregor Seyffert company, Maggio Danza of Florence and the National Ballet of Cuba. His decorations include the Villa de Madrid Prize in 2006; the First Iberian American Choreography Competition in Havana in 2006; the Villanueva Award bestowed upon by the Cuban Writers and Artists Association – UNEAC- the same year and the Teatro de Madrid Prize.
