Havana, April 23 (RHC) -- Arnaldo Rodríguez y su Talisman has composed a song to celebrate May Day, International Workers' Day. The initiative is from the National Culture Workers Union, at the proposal of General Secretary, Nereyda Labrada. Vivir para vencer or ‘Live to win,’ recorded at the Egrem studios, was co-authored by Arnaldo Rodríguez himself and Alfredo Felipe for the occasion.

‘As we know, this year’s May Day will be a very different celebration in our country and other parts of the world, due to the measures to confront COVID-19,’ said Arnaldo.´ We were inspired by the phrase "Live to win," which President Miguel Díaz-Canel recently said.´

According to Rodríguez, they assumed that expression as a priority for all Cubans: first to save lives and be healthy, and then continue with daily efforts. This is the first time that the Talisman has the opportunity to sing to May Day, but, according to the Cuban musician, he has sung to other celebrations on other occasions.

´In 2008 we made a song for the National Cultural Union, inspired by poet Raúl Gómez García. I am a member of the union’s National Secretariat and the Cuban Central Workers Confederation’s National Council, and all this has to be done along with maintaining my work as a creator and interpreter of the Talisman.

'Live to win' intrinsically brings Arnaldo Rodríguez's wishes for Cuba: ´We must not underestimate this disease; we must be responsible and disciplined. All this without losing faith, optimism and then we will go on.´

When everything is over, the Cuban musician says that he will hug his people and tell them that we are alive and that now we have to win. Afterwards, He will continue to create art and artistic projects and, above all, he will continue contributing to music and national culture.
