The 40th edition of the Caribbean Festival has been postponed to 2021, given the epidemiological situation in our region and around the world, generated by the current Covid-19 pandemic.
At a press conference, Orlando Verges, director of Casa del Caribe –the cultural institution in the eastern City of Santiago de Cuba, organizing the annual event- announced the new date of July 3rd through the 9th, 2021.
The aim of the Caribbean Festival, also known as Fiesta del Fuego (Fire Festival) is to highlight the cultural expressions of the Caribbean region, as well as Cuba's African and Caribbean Heritage.
The director of Casa del Caribe noted that the week-long Festival features several traditional and popular music bands. The event is also host to dancers and coaches who are part of the traditional Fire Fiesta procession. Besides the traditional activities, the program of the 40th edition will include virtual workshops on the impact of the current pandemic on the cultural sector.
The 2021 Fire Festival will be dedicated to Belize, the Suponen studios of the Cuban Recording and Musical Editions Company EGREM and the 40 years of Casa del Caribe.
