Havana, 29 January (RHC)--The 25th Chamber Music Festival ‘A Tempo con Caturla’ will be held from March 2nd through the 7th with a broad program online from Villa Clara province, due to the epidemiological situation generated by Covid-19.
The event is sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association in the central Cuban province.
The president of the Organizing Committee, Maykel Iglesias, stressed that a distinctive feature this year is that the event transcends Cuban borders and is open to participants, exponents of the music genre from around the world.
He further said that the 25th edition is dedicated to the 115th birthday anniversary of Alejandro García Caturla --one of the most prolific, renowned Cuban composers of the 20th century--, to the 35th anniversary of the Hermanos Saíz Association, as well as the 100th anniversary of the Latin Music Institute and the 95th anniversary of the Symphony Orchestra of Villa Clara.
The festival is also dedicated to maestro Chucho Valdés, considered among the world’s top 5 pianists, on his 80th birthday. Precisely, Chucho will be the guest of honor. The event will pay tribute also to José Antonio Méndez Valencia, who was awarded the ‘Maestro de Juventudes’ distinction by the Hermanos Saíz Association and to the 2020 National Music Prize laureates Edesio Alejandro and Huberal Herrera.
First held in 1996, the Chamber Music Festival 'A Tempo con Caturla’ is an annual event aimed at preserving intangible Cuban and universal heritage linked to chamber music and folklore by promoting the work of young and established soloists and ensembles, exponents of the genre.
