Havana residents will enjoy several shows by the Spanish dance company directed by Cuban dancer and choreographer Irene Rodríguez in July and August.
Mella Theater will be the venue this weekend of the show Spanish Symphony: from the classics to flamenco, with the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Enrique Pérez Mesa as special guests. The Irene Rodríguez Company will also perform at the recently renovated Martí Theater on the 12 and 13. Irene Rodriguez is also set to run the Flamenco Summer Workshops from August 4 through 9, boosted by her company along with the Rutas y Andares Project of Havana’s Historian Office.
Irene Rodríguez was a principal dancer with Cuba’s Spanish Dance Company in which she earned national and international recognition and later decided to set up her own dance ensemble. She’s been the recipient of national and international awards, such as the Cuban Writers and Artists Association Choreography Prize for her piece Frida and the Alicia Alonso Choreography Award.
