Havana, June 9 (RHC)-- With a common past and historic ties of friendship, Mexico and Cuba are once again linking their destinies, this time with the opening of a collective exhibition of graphic art signed by authors from both countries.
The exhibition entitled Cuba-Mexico Contemporary Latin American Graphics seduces at the Belkis Ayon Gallery, by combining the talent of 16 representatives of that style, seven from Mexico and nine from the Caribbean nation, according to the entity's main specialist, Abenamar Bauta.
The collection is expected to travel to other stages of the continent, the collection brings together pieces of different engraving techniques such as woodcut, silkscreen, collagraphs and lithographs, which catch the eyes of the public with their mastery and "waste of resources used," Bauta told Prensa Latina.
"The idea arose as a result of an exhibition of Cuban geometric abstract art, held earlier this year in the city of Oaxaca, as part of the program for the promotion of that form of expression from the Experimental Center," said the specialist.
According to a press release from the Jose Antonio Diaz Pelaez Experimental Center for the Visual Arts, one of the institutions organizing the project, the exhibition is curated by Bauta and Casa de la Americas specialist Lisandra Aguilar, with the design of Fabian Muñoz and a multidisciplinary team.
The Mexican artists Mario Guzman, Yescka Guerrilla, Cesar Chavez, Everest Isaac, Ivan Bautista, Gilda Genis Garcia and Fernando Beta, as well as Cubans Frank Valdez, Yainiel Martinez, Yusniel Labañino, Lisbeth Corvo, Jessica Vazquez, Hanna Chomenko, Kevin Sanchez, Jesus Molina and Cesar Leal signed the exhibition.
The initiative was organized by the Culture Directorate of the Administration Council of the Plaza de la Revolución, the Belkis Ayon Gallery, Casa de las Americas, the University of the Arts and the Rene Portocarrero Serigraphy Workshop in this capital city, with the support of the Ixrael Montes Gallery in Oaxaca, Mexico.
