Boleros de Oro International Festival

Havana, June 13 (RHC)-- Several stages in Cuba are ready today to host the 36th edition of the Boleros de Oro International Festival, from June 15 to 18 in this capital and venues in other provinces, reported the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac), organizer of the event.

The galas and presentations will take place at the National Theater of Cuba -whose Covarrubias Hall is the main venue-, the America Theater, Havana's Casa del Alba Cultural and the Huron Azul, said the event's coordinators.

Guest artists from Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Argentina, in addition to the host country, will take part in the event.

The festival thus returns to its international dimension after seeing its scope limited in previous years due to the pandemic.

The organizers now invite the public to enjoy a musical genre that is part of the nation's Cultural Heritage, and whose file is currently being prepared, together with Mexico, for the bolero to be recognized as Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Until June 18, the event will feature important presentations, mainly in the capital, by Cuban and international artists with a varied program.

On June 15, at the National Theater, Covarrubias Hall, performers Niurka Reyes, Raúl Reyes Araujo, Leonor Montesinos and other boleristas from the backyard will take the stage, as well as foreign guests Mauricio Ortiz and Carolina Roldán, from Colombia; and Carlos Medina, Jesús Rodríguez and Marilú Basulto, from Mexico.

The America Theater will pay tribute to the 140th anniversary of Tristeza, the first bolero composed by Santiago-born José "Pepe" Sánchez in 1883.

The accompanying orchestra will be the Charanga de Oro, directed by maestro José Loyola, founding leader of the Festival, and the Ballet America will perform in a show under the artistic direction of Julio Pulido.

The 80th anniversary of singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés, who recently passed away, will be evoked there.

Cuba will be represented by Eduardo Sosa, Trio Cuba, Lino Borges Junior, Andres Correa, Rachel Valladares, and Lyn Milanés, and foreigners Pier (Spain), Carolina Roldán and Juan Carlos Cortés (Colombia).(Source:PL)
