Cuban president highlights beach volleyball qualification for Olympic Games

Havana, June 28 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the beach volleyball women's qualification for the Tokyo Olympic Games, scheduled for July 23rd to August 8th.    On his Twitter account, the Cuban leader noted that the Cuban women's teams won the Olympic ticket after winning undefeated the pre-Olympic tournament that ended the day before in Colima, Mexico.

This Sunday, Cubans Lidianny Echevarría-Yanileydis Sánchez and Leila Martínez and Maylen Delis defeated, respectively, their Mexican counterparts Martha Revuelta-Zaira Orellana and Susana Torres and María José Quintero to win the coveted Olympic ticket.

On the sands of the Unidad Deportiva de Morelos, Echevarria and Sanchez were the first to compete and they did it in an excellent way, defeating the experienced Revuelta and Orellana by double 21-15 in just 37 minutes of confrontation.

Then came Martinez and Delis, who needed only 30 minutes of play to get rid of their rivals Torres and Quintero with a score of 21-16 and 21-7.

As only two volleyball players will be able to attend, the volleyball Federation announced that they will be chosen by the technical staff and the National Commission.

With the women's beach volleyball quota, Cuba has 69 tickets in 14 disciplines for the Tokyo Olympic Games, where it aspires to win three or more titles to place among the best 20 countries in the competition.
