Santo Domingo, September 20 (RHC/PL)-- The Dominican Republic won the women's volleyball Pan American Cup held in this capital, defeating Mexico 3-0 (25-15, 25-21 and 25-14).
With this result, the "Queens of the Caribbean" finished a dream tournament in which they won all their matches without losing a set, thus equaling Cuba who in 2005 achieved this feat for the first time in a Cup and in this city.
Likewise, it is the fifth title obtained by those from the middle of the island in Pan American Cups, the previous ones were in 2008, 2010, 2014 and 2016.
Prior to the grand final, the bronze medal was discussed, which was won by the United States who swept Canada 3-0 (26-24; 25-17; 25-17).
In this way, the standings of the Cup were as follows: Dominican Republic, Mexico, United States, Canada, Cuba, Puerto Rico.
At the end of Sunday's match, the captain of the Dominican team, Prisilla Rivera, who announced a few months ago that she would leave the national team after 22 years in high performance and being considered a glory of the country, retired from active sports.
