Costa Rican media chooses Yulimar Rojas in Prensa Latina poll

Havana, November 12 (PL)-- The Costa Rican newspaper Elpaís.cr chose Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas as the best athlete in Latin America and the Caribbean in the 57th edition of the Prensa Latina Sports Poll.

With this vote in her favor, the Olympic queen of the triple jump in Tokyo 2020 extends her advantage in the category of female athlete of the year, after receiving the vote of San Lorenzo en Radio of Argentina and Juventud Rebelde of Cuba.

The Costa Rican media recognized in its election the dominance of the Venezuelan athlete in the current season with a leading role for the gold in the event under the five rings that included a world and competition record of 15.67 meters, in addition to triumphing in the Diamond League.

The vote of the Costa Rican newspaper chose Cuban boxer Julio César la Cruz, owner of his second Olympic title and the fifth world champion belt, to equal in the poll with his compatriots Mijaín López and Andy Cruz.

In the teams' section, Elpais.cr gave weight to Argentina's men's national soccer team, winners of the Copa América in Brazil 2021.

After the suspension in 2020 by Covid-19, the annual Prensa Latina Poll launched its 57th version at the beginning of the week and will extend the voting period until December 17 to recognize the best male and female athlete, as well as the most relevant team.

Votes from the media -radio, television, written and digital press- can be sent (never personally) to the following e-mail address: deportes@prensa-latina.cu.

The final result of the poll will be announced on December 20 at a press conference.

-Most Relevant Team:

Argentina (soccer) 2 votes

Fernando Dayán Jorge and Serguey Torres (Cuba, canoeing) 1 vote
