San Jose, July 13 (PL)-- Cubans Marcel Hernandez and Luis Javier Paradela were chosen as the best foreign players of the Clausura 2022 and Apertura 2021 tournaments, respectively, of the first division of Costa Rican soccer.

At the gala awards ceremony for the best players in the Central American nation, divided into the two local tournaments, Marcel also won the top scorer award, with 16 goals, and best player of the Clausura 2022, as well as recognition for having become the top foreign scorer in Costa Rica's first division, with 95 goals.

In addition, Marcel's team, Cartaginés, received the parchment as national champion of the 2022 Clausura Tournament, thus breaking a bad streak of 81 years without bringing a Cup to the showcase of the dean team of Costa Rican soccer, founded in 1906.

Likewise, Cartagines coach Geiner Segura and goalkeeper Kevin Briceño deserved all the honors in each of their positions in the Clausura 2022.

As for the Apertura 2021 Tournament, the Herediano team (champion of that competition) and its players were the most awarded, with the scrolls of best player for Yeltsin Tejeda, best coach for Jeaustin Campos, and top scorer for Yendrick Ruiz.

For the chronicle and the Costa Rican sports press, the Cuban Marcel Hernandez was the great honoree with his four statuettes, for which the striker thanked everyone in general, as these awards are more for everyone than for him.

"I already have about 12 awards in my house and I think that with God in front of me, taking care of me, I think there is a lot of Marcel ahead, this is part of the work and sacrifice", said Marcel to FUTV.
