Havana, December 23 (RHC)-- On Thursday afternoon, the Gala Awards Ceremony for Cuba's Best Sportsmen in 2022 was held at the Glauber Rocha Hall of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation.
With Andy Granda and Yarisleidi Cirilo at the head, the best exponents of sports on the island received the well-deserved recognition.
The ceremony was presided over by Jorge Luis Perdomo Di Lella, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic; Osvaldo Vento Montiller, President of INDER; and Roberto León Richard, President of the Cuban Olympic Committee.
The artistic touches were provided by, among others, singers David Torrens and Adrián Berazaín, the group Toques del Río, actors from the popular soap opera Los Hijos de Pandora and dancers from the Acosta Dance Company.
Granda and Cirilo received the highest distinction of the year as the best athletes in the country.
In the case of collective disciplines, the top went to Niurkis Moras in handball (women), Jesús Herrera in volleyball and Alain Román in softball (men).
Another award that stands out among those recognized is the prize for the ten outstanding athletes of the year, which in the calendar that is about to end went to: Arlenis Sierra, Leuris Pupo, Katherin Nuevo, Julio César la Cruz, Serguey Torres, Iván Felipe Silva, Lázaro Martínez, Idalys Ortiz, Daniela Darriba and Carlos Daniel Albornoz.
In the case of the parathletes, the highest awards went to: Suslaidy Girat Rivero (Best Parathlete of the Year), Sheyla Hernández (Most Outstanding Female Parathlete) and Robiel Yankiel Sol (Most Outstanding Male Parathlete).
A year 2022 full of professional achievements for the honorees is coming to an end, and a 2023 full of international commitments for the Cuban sports movement is already in sight, with the Central American Games in San Salvador and the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile among the most outstanding ones.
Many of those present at the gala will repeat their feats and, along with other exponents, will fill the Cuban people with pride and satisfaction.
