Alexandr Fier
Havana, May 5 (JIT) - Brazilian Alexandr Fier repeated his victory and dawned Friday as the sole leader of the elite group of the Capablanca Memorial chess tournament, held at the Habana Libre Hotel.
Fier defeated Cuba's Luis Ernesto Quesada on Thursday in a duel that advanced to the 38th move of a Caro Kann Defense.
After subduing Cuba's Carlos Daniel Albornoz in the opening, the South American leads the tournament alone, half a point ahead of India's Raunak Sadhwani, Denmark's Jonas Bjerre and Spain's Eduardo Iturrizaga.
The first two enjoyed successes, while Iturrizaga made peace with Cuba's reigning champion, Elier Miranda.
