Havana, June 7 (RHC)-- Cuban Robiel Yankiel Sol Cervantes set this Wednesday a world record of 7.71 meters (m) in the long jump in the T47 category (upper limb affected), at the V Parapan American Youth Games held in Bogota, Colombia.

Sol Cervantes, Paralympic champion of Tokyo 2020, fouled in his first attempt and then he scored 7.05 and 7.55 m, which would have been enough to win the title.

Then, in his fourth attempt, he fell below six meters due to a blow of air near the board, as he explained to his coach Luis Bueno, who was demanding and restless in the stands all the time, according to the sports publication JIT.

Then, with 7.48 m in the fifth round, he showed that he was looking for something big in the competition and everything was ready for a special moment, which came in the sixth attempt with the aforementioned 7.71 m that put him again in the top of the extra classes.

To the great joy of the Cuban delegation, his compatriot Adelvis Durán took the silver medal with 6.30 m.

Sol Cervantes, on May 14, in the Parathletics Grand Prix of Jesolo, in Italy, achieved 7.69 m to establish a new universal primacy in his specialty.

In that event he reached the important mark in the second attempt of his performance in the Armando Picchi stadium, where he also registered 7.36 and 7.43 m, to demonstrate his current excellent level.

With this result, he broke the previous record of 7.58 m, achieved in 2011 by Frenchman Arnaud Assoumani, bronze medalist at the Paralympic Games in Athens 2004 and winner of the title in Beijing 2008.

The young jumper from the island surprised in the Japanese capital with his gold medal, which he won with a Paralympic record of 7.46m.
