Havana, June 17 (RHC)-- Winning medals in both sexes will be the goal of Cuban basketball in the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, to be held from June 23 to next July 8.

The women will try to equal or improve the silver medal achieved in Barranquilla 2018, when they lost in the title discussion to the local Colombians.

In the case of the Cuban team, it will compete in Group B against the Salvadoran hosts, the Puerto Ricans and Costa Rica.

The roster led by Márgaro Pedroso is made up of Yamara Amargo, Isabella Jourdain, Naomi Vargas, Bexi Claro, Eliannis Armenteros, Dairis Tornell, Melisa Despaigne, Rachel Contreras, Bexy Guilarte, Suanly Tanis, Enriqueta Neyra and María Isabel Monteros.

For them, the Central Caribbean event will serve as a training camp ahead of the America's Cup to be organized by Mexico from July 1 to 9 this year.

As for the men, repeating the bronze medal of the previous edition could be a good result, although going further is by no means an impossible goal.

The representatives of the Island will be in a complicated bracket along with Mexicans, Puerto Rico and the local team, so advancing to the top two will be the first challenge.

Jasiel Rivero, player of Valencia Basket, in the competitive Spanish League, will be the leader of the Cuban team, although the list includes other players with international prominence, such as Karel Guzmán, Yoanki Mensía and Pedro Bombino.

Completing the group are Marcos Chacón, Sigfredo Alberto Casero, Luis Amaury Bueno, Michel Rodríguez, Yoel Cubillas, Marlon Díaz, Neyseer Coutín and Raúl de la Cruz Villega, all under the orders of Eduardo Moya, who will be assisted by Andrés González, as announced by the national basketball commission.
