Havana, July 21 (RHC)-- Cuban jumper Maikel Massó, injured during the final of the event at the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, is evolving satisfactorily, medical sources reported Friday.

A team of specialists in orthopedics and traumatology of the International Orthopedic Scientific Complex 'Frank País' of Havana, headed by the first deputy director, Dr. Ricardo Tarragona, has been in charge of treating the athlete since his arrival to the island.

Massó suffered an injury during the opening round of the final of the event, when he fell in the box and injured the patellar tendon of his right leg.

He was immediately treated by the medical staff in San Salvador, and the head of the island's delegation decided to transfer him to the country for surgery.

Upon his arrival in Cuba, the athlete was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. Two weeks later, he went to the doctor's office where the stitches were removed and later underwent a physical rehabilitation session.

A specialist from the Institute of Sports Medicine commented to Prensa Latina news agency that he will now have to undergo a more intense period of recovery of the affected knee.

"This stage will last three weeks," specified the experts in charge of reviving the West Indian kangaroo, bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
