Havana, August 26 (PL) -- Ethiopia today won the gold and silver medals in the women's marathon at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, through Amare Beriso Shankule and Gotygom Gebreselase in that order.

Shankule won the gold medal with a time of two hours 24 minutes and 23 seconds, which was her best time of the current season, while her compatriot reached the finish line in 2:24.34, also her best time this year.

Relegated to third place was the representative of Morocco Fatima Gardadi, who ran the 42 kilometers and 195 meters in 2:25.17, for the bronze medal.

With this gold medal, Ethiopia reached two and climbed to fourth place in the general table by nations, only surpassed by Jamaica (3), Spain (4) and the United States (8), with one day left for the end of the competition.
