Havana, September 20 (RHC).- The Cuban University of Sport (UCCFD) celebrates its 50th anniversary this 2023 with an extensive plan of activities that include tributes to professors, signing of agreements and the challenge of contributing to the development of sport from science.

"We have a lot to do. We have advanced, but we still have a long way to go," said the rector of the institution, Dr. Silvano Merced, at a press conference, after elaborating on the activities to commemorate the anniversary.

He recalled that there is a call from the country's leadership to ponder science applied to sports and warned that this constitutes a commitment for the center.

"We have a commitment with the country's leadership, with the training of our graduates and the possibility that they can provide a much better service to the country in the four spheres: sport, therapeutic physical culture, physical education and recreation," he added.

He added that they will continue working on the improvement of trainers and technicians, and praised the work with sports glories and our athletes".

According to the director, as part of the "50th Anniversary Day", the signing of several collaboration agreements with personalities from 14 universities from 10 invited countries is scheduled for October 3.

Sports festivals began a few days ago in several neighborhoods of Havana, and meetings are also scheduled with sports glories graduated from the center, a meeting with founders, recognition to professors and retirees, and an appearance in the radio-televised space Mesa Redonda, on October 9, the founding date of the school.
