Havana, October 11 (ACN) - The goal of Cuban canoeing is to win three titles at the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, according to the national commissioner of the sport, Alejandro Hamze.
In addition to the three gold medals, there will be two silver and two bronze medals, according to the forecast of the Cuban federation.
According to Hamze, the women's canoe will seek two gold medals, and the men's one, in the Laguna Grande San Pedro de la Paz, from October 28 to November 4.
Among Cuba's list, the double world champion in the 200-meter single-seater canoe (C-1) Yarisleidis Cirilo stands out, who will fight to climb to the top of the podium in the 200-meter C-1 and in the 500-meter C-2, the latter in the company of young Yisnolis Lopez.
The other golden metal will go to the men's C-2 at 500 meters, made up of José Ramón Pelier and Javier Requeiro.
The Cuban canoeing team is currently at a training base in Colombia.
In Lima 2019, Cuban canoeing finished in fifth place by countries, with two gold, two silver and one bronze medals, behind Brazil (5-0-3), Argentina (4-4-2), Canada (3-6-4) and the United States (3-2-1).
He added that Pelier will fight for one of the two silver medals, in the 1,000-meter C-1, and for the other one, the women's 500-meter tandem kayak (K-2), with Yurieni Guerra and Daylen Rodríguez.
The men's and women's kayak (K-4) quartets, with Robert Benítez, Juan Calos Samé, Reiler Patterson and Caleb Fábregat, and Yurieni, Daylen, Camila Cuello and Madelen Heredia, respectively, will compete for the bronze medals.
The selection (m and f) of 13 canoeists (canoe and kayak) also includes canoeist Elvis Álvaro Reyes, who completes the young team, in which only three repeat from the previous edition of Lima 2019, kayakers Camila, Yurieni and Benítez.
The two gold medals were achieved in the men's C-2 1000 meters and women's C-2 500 meters, the silver medals in the C-1 1000 meters and K-4 500 meters (m), with the presence of Benítez, and the bronze medal in the C-1 200 meters (f).
