Havana, November 28 (PL) -- Venezuela dominates today the medal table of the VI Central American and Caribbean School Games 2023 at the end of the fourth day with a total of 130 medals, including 65 gold, 39 silver and 26 bronze.
Behind the Bolivarians are Colombia with 63 (15-24-24), Mexico 47 (15-22-10), Cuba with 10 (5-3-2), Panama 18 (3-0-15), Dominican Republic 29 (2-14-13), Nicaragua 34 (0-2-32) and Honduras with 10 (0-0-10).
With two days of competition left, Venezuela and Colombia dominate in chess with gold and silver medals, respectively, while Cuba and Nicaragua have one bronze each.
The locals also lead in athletics with 24 (11-7-6), followed by the Colombians (3-7-4), Cuba with two gold medals in third position, then Mexico with four (1-2-1), Panama with three (1-0-2), the Dominican Republic with two (0-1-1) and Honduras and Nicaragua with one bronze medal each.
In basketball, the Bolivarian Republic won gold in the women's category, while Mexico won gold in the men's category; in judo, the Venezuelans won 15 medals (9-4-2), Colombia 11 (2-3-6), Panama 10 (2-0-8), Cuba three (2-0-1), the Dominican Republic 10 (1-8-1), Nicaragua seven (0-1-6) and Honduras three (0-0-3).
Venezuela led in karate with 16 (11-5-0), Mexico 14 (1-6-7), Colombia six (1-2-3), Dominican Republic four (1-0-3), Nicaragua 12 (0-1-11) and Honduras two (0-0-2).
In the wrestling medals, the hosts dominated with 10 medals (7-3-0), Colombia 10 (2-5-3), Cuba three (1-2-0) and Nicaragua seven (0-0-7).
In swimming, the Venezuelans won 50 medals (18-13-19), Mexico 40 (16-19-5), Colombia five (0-2-3) and Panama six (0-0-6); while in table tennis, the home team won seven (5-1-1), the Dominicans seven (0-4-3), Colombia three (0-0-3) and Honduras one (0-0-1).
On Tuesday there will be competitions in taekwondo, boxing, volleyball, table tennis, swimming, wrestling, weightlifting, judo, athletics and chess, and tomorrow chess and wrestling will close the six days of competition, according to the competitive calendar.
Two thousand young people between 15 and 17 years of age are participating in the VI Central American and Caribbean School Games, and the competition venues are distributed in the states of La Guaira, Miranda and the Capital District (Caracas).
These multisport games were last held in 2015.
