Havana, December 3 (RHC)-- Venezuelan triple jumper Yulimar Rojas on Sunday began her assault on the throne in the Prensa Latina agency's poll to choose the best athletes of the year.
Rojas, a previous winner in 2017 and 2019, received votes from Radio Habana Cuba (RHC) and Radio del Sur (Venezuela), to take the lead in the women's section, in which Panamanian runner Gianna Woodruff had one endorsement.
Also, with two votes, Fluminense soccer club (Brazil), champion of the Copa Libertadores de América for the first time in its history, leads the collective section, after winning the support of the South American radio station.
On the other hand, RHC chose Mexico's national soccer team, Gold Cup champions, as the best team of the season.
Having received the first three votes, there was no consensus in the men's section, where Venezuelan weightlifter Keydomar Ballenilla and Cuban wrestler Luis Orta, in addition to Panamanian midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla, each accumulated one vote.
The 59th edition of the traditional Prensa Latina Sports Poll to choose the best athletes and teams of Latin America and the Caribbean in the 2023 season, will be open until December 21 and the results will be announced one day later from its headquarters. (Source: Prensa Latina)
