Miami, January 4 (RHC)- The governing body of sports in the Americas, Panam Sports, reported that its executive committee has unanimously decided to withdraw Barranquilla, Colombia, as the host city for the XX Pan American Games.
The resolution was taken after several breaches of the host city's contract.
It should be noted that on October 19, at a meeting in Santiago, Chile, and after receiving a letter from the Colombian authorities on October 25, Barranquilla requested an extension of the deadline to comply with the contract.
The proposal was accepted by Panam Sports, which set new deadlines on December 30, 2023 and January 30, 2024.
However, as the new deadline passed without a response, on January 3, 2024 the Executive Committee of Panam Sports has made the unwavering decision to take away the rights to host the continental games in 2027.
Panam Sports deeply regrets this situation, but has made this decision with the future of the largest multi-sport event in the Americas and the athletes of the continent in mind.
