Lima clausura de Panamericanos 2019
Miami, March 13 (PS) - After two intense months of bidding, the city that will host the next Pan American Games in 2027 has finally been chosen.
At 9:00 a.m., the Extraordinary General Assembly of Panam Sports began with the official presentations of the candidate cities of Lima and Asuncion.
Both cities had a 40-minute presentation led by the presidents of the Olympic Committees of Peru and Paraguay, Renzo Manyari and Camilo Perez, respectively.
They showed videos, messages from their main authorities and then submitted to questions from the participating member countries. After that, the voting took place in virtual format, a process that was carried out by the British company Lumi.
After a few minutes, the president of the Legal Commission of Panam Sports, Michael Chambers, handed the envelope of the winning city to the highest authority of the continental organization.
"The city that will host the next 2027 Pan American Games with 28 votes in favor is: Lima, Peru," said the president of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic.
The joy was unleashed on the representatives of Lima and Peru. After organizing in a great way the XVIII Pan American Games in 2019, the most important multisport event of the continent will return in 2027 to Peruvian lands.
"I want to highlight how transparent the process was and the brotherhood of both nations that competed healthily for the right to host the 2027 Pan American Games. I want to congratulate Lima, the Peruvian Olympic Committee, its president Renzo Manyari and all of Peru for this tremendous achievement. A few years ago they made a whole continent vibrate and today, with more experience and a spectacular infrastructure, they want to repeat or improve on the success achieved in 2019," said Panam Sports president Neven Ilic.
"I also take this opportunity to congratulate Paraguay and President Camilo Perez. They are doing a great job with Paraguayan sport and its athletes, so my call is for them to continue to grow and develop. They have a tremendous challenge ahead of them, such as the 2025 Pan American Junior Games, where I am sure they will be a great host for the entire continent," added Ilic.
The president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee was emphatic in pointing out that "we are happy for this triumph. We will work to make everyone's experience the best they have ever had, and they have the absolute devotion of more than 33 million Peruvians. Thank you for trusting us. Thanks also to President Dina Boluarte and her unrestricted support to this candidacy. Together We Won!".
