Havana, July 8 (PL) - Double Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon (Kenya, in 1500m) and two-time world high jump champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh set world records on Sunday at the Diamond League stop in Paris.

Kipyegon, 30, crossed the finish line with a time of three minutes, 49 seconds and four hundredths, leaving behind the 3:49.11 she herself had held since June last year.

With the victory, the Kenyan consolidated her status as top favorite for the title in Paris 2024, a crown that, if won, would make her the only woman to have won a triple Olympic title in the 1500, breaking the embrace with the Soviet Tatiana Kazankina, winner in Montreal 1976 and Moscow 1980.

Shortly before the Kenyan competitor's success, 22-year-old Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh set a new mark in the high jump with 2.10 meters, one centimeter better than the old mark held by Bulgarian Stefka Kostadinova since August 1987.

The multi-record holder in the pole vault, Sweden's Armand Duplantis, also tried to join the festival of records, but was unable to reach 6.25 meters.

For Latin America, Dominican runners Marileidy Paulino and Alexander Ogando shone with victories in 400m and 200m, respectively.

Paulino dominated the oval lap with 49.20 sec, her best time of the season, to add up wins in her four participations in the Diamond League 2024: Xiamen, Shanghai, Oslo and, now, Paris.

The student of Cuban Yaseen Perez beat Poland's Natalia Kaczmarek (49.82).

Her compatriot Alexander Ogando was a surprise in the 200 meters, winning his first victory of the year (19.98), and Brazil's Alison Dos Santos won the 400m hurdles (47.48).

In Hengelo, Netherlands, Puerto Rican Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho won the 100m hurdles with 12.39, her best result of the season.
