Havana, Aug 12 (ACN) The last group of the Cuban delegation that attended the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will arrive this Monday in Havana, where the people will receive them with enthusiasm and joy.

They are expected to arrive in Havana around 7:00 p.m., and then they will travel by caravan to La Piragua, the official venue for the reception of the medalists in that summer event and other athletes, accompanied by the highest authorities of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder).

Among those who will arrive in the homeland is the Greco-Roman wrestling legend Mijaín López, in the 130 kilograms (kg), winner of his fifth crown in these venues, to become the only athlete in history to have won gold in the same individual event in five editions under the five rings.

Also in the group is boxer Erislandy Álvarez (63.5 kg), who won the title in his division with a resounding victory in the final against Frenchman Sofian Oumiha.

Among the women, freestyle gladiators Yusneylis Guzmàn (50 kg), who with her silver prize became the first Cuban to reach the podium in the Olympic Games in wrestling, and her teammate Milaymis Marín (76 kg), bronze winner.

In addition to these two, Yarisleidis Cirilo, bronze medalist in the 200-meter C1 canoeing.

As part of the reception, the population was urged to fill with Cuban flags and decorate the roads and streets where the caravan will pass.

The activity in La Piragua should begin after 9:00 p.m. and will last until after midnight in anticipation of August 13, the 98th birthday of the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016).

Cuba was represented by 61 athletes in 16 sports in the competition under the five rings, which concluded on Sunday.

The Cuban delegation had the goal of placing among the top 20 in the medal table by country, a goal that could not be achieved by placing 32nd among the more than 200 nations represented.

In Paris 2024, the Caribbean nation obtained two gold medals, one silver medal and six bronze medals, with wrestling (1-1-3) and boxing (1-0-1) standing out.
