Santiago de Cuba, Oct 9 (JIT) - The Cuban national basketball team will participate in the Centrobasket Women's Fiba 2024 Championship, to be held in the Mexican city of Irapuato.
The event will take place between November 5 and 10, and will be divided into two groups with four teams each.
The Cubans were drawn in section A along with El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico, leaving the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic for section B.
A round-robin group stage will be played with the top two teams from each bracket advancing to the semifinal round, the rest will play for the fifth through eighth places.
The winners of the semifinals will play for the title and the losers will compete for the bronze medal.
These top four teams from the first round will have an additional incentive: they will have tickets to the Fiba AmeriCup 2025 Tournament, to be held in Managua, Nicaragua.
The Cuban squad seems to have a chance to advance among the top two in the group, even to reedit a place on the podium as the bronze medal obtained in the last edition of Chihuahua 2022.
