Havana, Dec 18 (RHC) The Camagüey team defeated Pinar del Río 54-26 reaching 108 points, to lead the final of the National Boxing Series, which closed its second day today at the Rafael Fortún multipurpose hall in this city.

The Guerreros del Mayor team, current monarch, was victorious in eight of the 10 bouts, including the unanimous success of Nelson Williams (92 kg), gold medalist in the Cologne 2023 World Cup, who defeated Freddy Pérez, a member of the national pre-selection team.

Williams avoided grappling, always tried to work in the long distance, and imposed his best ABC of this sport.

This poster brought a powerful left hook from the strong Duniel Dueñas (+92 kg), who sent Adrián Charles to the canvas in one of the two bids favoring Pinar del Río.

Also, in the most exciting fight, neither Yunier Sorzano (CMG/71 kg) nor David Espinosa (PRI) called for a truce. Nine minutes of constant exchanges, sometimes forgetting the defensive rules. The 2-1 vote in favor of the local fighter was deserved.

In another tough fight, Karel Simon (CMG/80 kg) obtained his second success of the tournament, 3-0 against the experienced Osnay Bencomo (PRI), supported by his work from the outside and good torso movements against the straight punches of his opponent.

In the morning hours of Tuesday, Holguín defeated Cienfuegos 48-30 and Guantánamo passed 46-23 over Sancti Spíritus.

After these results, Camagüey leads (108 points), followed by Guantánamo (86), Pinar del Río (71), Cienfuegos (70), Holguín (48), Sancti Spíritus (45), and Matanzas (33).

This Wednesday, on the third day, Holguín-Sancti Spíritus, Guantánamo-Pinar del Río, and Camagüey-Matanzas will play against each other. Cienfuegos will rest.
