Havana, Apr 20 (RHC) - Yerisbel Miranda completed the task with an excellent score and won the only ticket for the next World Cup available in the women's segment of the Sub-Zonal 2.3.2 Chess Tournament of Medellin 2025, in Colombia.

The player from Pinar del Río, current queen of the Island, defeated in the final round the host Valentina Argote and rounded up 7.5 points out of a possible nine, valid to get, besides the title, the ticket to the universal appointment that next July will be held in the city of Batumi, Georgia.

The owner of 2249 Elo points, achieved to add 5.3 points that will be reflected in the update of the Fide ranking for the month of May.

The Colombians Melissa Castrillon and Silvana Pinillo closed with seven points each and in that order occupied places two and three of the ranking composed of 67 contestants.

In the Open competition, Cuban fans followed the performance of the national champion, Jorge Roberto Elías, who also arrived at the farewell with options of qualifying for the universal competition.

However, the draw agreed with Roberto Garcia, left him with only 7.5. Four other players finished with the same score, which forced the application of the tie-breaker formula to define the ranking.

Unfortunately, the scores did not favor the Camagüey native, placed fifth in the list headed by García.

As the reigning continental champion, Garcia started the tournament with a guaranteed ticket to the World Cup, so the only ticket in dispute went to his compatriot Angel Gabriel Cordoba, who was in second place.

The venue for the World Cup for this section has not yet been defined, although it has been announced that it will take place between October 31 and November 27.

Chess players from Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic participated in the subregion's tournament.
