Canada is today at the top of the medal table after the first day of competitions of the 17th Pan-American Games in Toronto with 10 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals, followed by the United States, with 7, 5 and 7; then Colombia (6-5-3), Mexico with 2, 4 and 1, to close with Brazil, Cuba, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela and Bermuda.

Cuba has maintained the 6th spot with 2, 2 and 4 thanks to its canoeing team of Jorge Garcia, Reinier Torres, Reinier Mora and Alex Menendez who won the K-4 category on Sunday, and Sancti Spiritus' judo athlete, Dayaris Mestre, who previously won on Saturday the 1st gold medal for the Cuban delegation in the 48-kg final.

Meanwhile, in the category of 2 pairs of female short oars, Cubans Aimee Hernández and Yariulvis Cobas awarded the bronze medal with a time of 7: 20.00.

However, the Cuban baseball squad fell 2-5 to the United States, in their 2nd presentation. In this case, the winners opened the scoring at the very end of the 1st entry with Andrew Parrino's homer that added 2 runs, ultimately the best hitter in the game with 2 hits in 4 at bats and 1 run scored.

American starting pitcher Nate Smith won the clash while Cuban opener Freddy Asiel Alvarez took the lost.

Cuba, with 1 win and 1 loss, will face Puerto Rico tomorrow, which defeated the Americans 10-9 on Saturday.

Soccer

The Cuban soccer team lost by a score of 0-2 to Trinidad and Tobago, in a match of the 2nd day of Group C of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, based at the University of Phoenix Stadium, Arizona.
