Ottawa, June 8 (RHC)-- U.S. President Donald Trump and other leaders of the world’s largest economies have gathered in Quebec City, Canada, for this year’s G-7 summit, with the U.S. president increasingly isolated over trade and climate change.
The G-7 meeting comes after Trump ordered tariffs on imported steel and aluminum from Canada, Mexico, China, Japan and the European Union, prompting world powers to talk of uniting against the U.S. in a trade war.
Reuters quoted French President Emmanuel Macron as saying on Thursday: “We don’t mind being six, if needs be.” Macron echoed that comment in a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Emmanuel Macron said: “The six other countries of the G-7 represent a larger market than the American market. Let’s face it, there is no world hegemony if we find a way to organize ourselves. And we don’t want there to be.”
