Ramallah, March 15 (RHC-Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas began on Saturday a visit to Washington where he is scheduled to meet on Monday with U.S. President Barack Obama to discuss the stalled peace process with Israel.

Abbas and Obama will reportedly review the progress in the U.S.- backed Israeli-Palestinian peace talks which will end in April, Abbas' advisor Majdi al-Khaldi told Xinhua news agency.

During his four-day visit, Abbas will also meet with U.S. officials including Secretary of State John Kerry, al-Khaldi added.

The Palestinian official said that Abbas hopes his meetings with Obama will yield positive results that would lead to comprehensive peace with Israel.

Abbas' meeting with the U.S. president comes after Obama's meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington two weeks ago.

Last week, Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) announced that it will not accept to extend the U.S.-mediated peace talks which resumed last July and will end next month.
