New York, July 12 (RHC)-- Poverty is not only concentrated in the least developed countries, but can be found in significant numbers in the middle and high income countries, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) say.

According to UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner, the wealthiest nations have people living in poverty, including many children.

Meanwhile, two-thirds of those in 'multidimensional poverty' (some 886 million) live in middle-income countries and another 440 million live in low-income places.

Such data are included in the report 'The Global Mutidimensional Poverty Index 2019. Illuminating inequalities', jointly developed by the UNDP and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) with information on101 countries, covering 76 percent of the global population.

 According to the report's figures, one in three children experience multidimensional poverty, compared to one in six adults.

This means that almost half of the people in multidimensional poverty are children (about 663 million).
