Bogotá, June 9 (PL-RHC) –- Beginning today until Sunday, June 15th, Colombians residing abroad may exercise their right to vote in the second round of the presidential elections to choose the future ruler of the country in the 2014-2018 quadrennium.
For the second time, this process will take place a week prior to the date of the elections, in order to facilitate the movement of citizens from distant places of the consular office.
On this occasion, the victory of one of the two presidential candidates: current President, Juan Manuel Santos, who is running for re-election by the Coalition of National Unity (comprising the U party, the Liberal and Radical Change) and Oscar Ivan Zuluaga for the Democratic Center, founded and led by former President Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010), will be decided at the polls.
As announced by the Registrar, 1,890 polling stations, spread over 217 posts, will operate in embassies and consulates from 64 countries, where 545,978 Colombians, registered on the electoral roll, will be able to vote from 8am to 4pm local time.
According to official data, the consulates with greater number of voters reported are those of Caracas with 60,398; Miami (27,929), New York (22,623) and Madrid (22,3140).
