Brazil surpasses 360,000 deaths due to COVID-19

Brasilia, April 15 (RHC)-- The Brazilian Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday that during the last 24 hours 3,459 deaths were registered by COVID-19, bringing the South American country's total number of deaths from the viral disease to 361,884.

The South American giant has a total of 13,673,507 SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infections to date, after 73,513 new cases were detected during the day, the health agency said.  It pointed out that during the last week, Brazil reported a daily average of 3,015 deaths due to COVID-19.

Sao Paulo is the Brazilian state with the highest number of cases, with 2,686,031 cases of the coronavirus and 85,475 deaths.

The state of Rio de Janeiro, meanwhile, exceeded 40,000 deaths due to Covid-19, after 300 deaths occurred in the last 24 hours.

To date, 12,170,771 people have managed to overcome the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, while 1,140,852 patients remain under medical observation.

Last Tuesday, the Brazilian Senate approved 11 members of a commission that, in a 90-day period, will investigate the management of President Jair Bolsonaro - who has been opposed to decreeing social confinement measures - in the face of the health crisis.

Opposition senator Randolfe Rodrigues was the one who requested the creation of the parliamentary committee, which should 'investigate the actions and omissions of the Federal Government to face the pandemic in Brazil.'
