Bogota, April 20 (RHC)-- The Institute for Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz) reported the murder of Dionisio Pai Pascal, which brings to 49 the number of leaders killed by violence and armed clashes in Colombian regions during 2021.

"Clashes of armed groups in the community Albicito-Resg Gran Sábalo-Tumaco, with an explosive device they attack the house of an Awá family, where 27-year-old Dionisio Pai dies," reported the Organization Indigenous Unity of the Awá People -- UNIPAC.   His murder occurred in the midst of a confrontation between armed groups operating in the area.

Dionisio Pai Pascal was a member of the Albicito community, belonging to the Gran Sábalo Resguardo, located in the municipality of Tumaco.  His murder occurred in the midst of a confrontation between armed groups operating in the area.

The crime was also reported by different community organizations of the Awá People, such as Unipa Communications and that of the National Indigenous Organization.  The communities denounce that in 2021 four members of the Awá Resguardo have been killed, multiple displacements and threats.

Thus, there are already four members of the Awá people murdered during the current year, according to the Indepaz report, in addition to harassment, confinement in their reservations, constant stigmatization and threats against their lives.

Indepaz pointed to the illegal armed groups present in Tumaco, a municipality located in the department of Nariño, in the southwest of Colombia, as responsible for the atmosphere of violence in this southwestern Colombian municipality.

"The groups that are present: Oliver Sinisterra Front, Alfonso Cano Western Bloc, Ivan Rios Front, Contadores, United Guerrillas of the Pacific and lAGC (Los de Matamba)," Indepaz said on Twitter.

Nariño is one of the departments most affected by murders and massacres of social leaders. On April 13, a new massacre was reported in which Gabriel Montaño, Diolo Peralta, and Eider Prado, who had been missing since April 6, were murdered.
